Primary Day is History
The primaries were held yesterday and the results have been interesting. As I write the governor’s race is too close to call basically between Sen. Shumlin and Sen. Racine with Deb Markowitz close behind.
Phil Scott easily beat out Mark Snelling for the Republican nomination for Lt. Gov. The race will pit Phil against Steve Howard who beat out Chris Bray. It’s my opinion that Phil can start measuring the drapes in the Lt. Gov.’s office.
I was thrilled to hear that Vicki Strong of Albany is one of the two Republicans to be nominated to run in her district. I suspect come opening day of session Vicki will be a member of the House.
Now for my district. There wasn’t a primary on the Democratic side. The same wasn’t true on the Republican side. Bob Lewis walked away as the top vote getter with no problem. Lyn Batchelder was second, and Patrick Martel is now out of the race.
Here is my prediction at this moment - Bob is heading back down to the State House without much problem. Lisa Erwin Davidson, a Democrat, will likely be his district mate. Lisa is a very sharp candidate but quite liberal. However, the one thing that could hurt her is the fact that this is a Republican year. It’s going to be difficult to be a Democrat. The way I see it the race, although the race will pit two Republicans against two Democrats as well as an Independent, the real race will be between Bob, Lisa, and Lynn.
