Not Seeking Re-Election
Yes, it’s official I’m not running for office this fall. Robin Smith wrote a great piece about my decision in the Cal. Record, an article that appeared in Tuesday’s paper. As the owners of Vermont’s Northland Journal, my wife, Penny, and I work thousands of hours each year working to share and preserve the history of Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. In addition our family hosts numerous events throughout the year to celebrate the people of the people and culture of the Northeast Kingdom as well as honoring our veterans. I simply could not continue juggling all the pieces of my life, which includes working part-time at North Country Hospital. I will serve out the remainder of my term which consists of this year, and I’ll continue to give it my all.
My district mate, Bob Lewis, and I have been looking for a good candidate to run for office this fall, a moderate (certainly not a zealot) who will serve the people and not a party. I have been contacted by a number of people who are considering running. Although I’ll have no say in who runs or who wins, my only hope is that the person be a true moderate who will look at the issues.
I’ll end by using a quote that appeared in Robin’s article.
I am the luckiest man alive. How could I not feel that way? I have a wonderful wife, three great kids, and a job that I see as more than a job, but a mission. It has been an honor to serve my district.”
