What The Heck Are Some Of Us Smoking?

Now that the session is coming to an end I have to ask myself – “What the heck are some of us smoking?”

From what I can see the Vermont legislature (at least some of its members) are totally and completely oblivious to the lives of the average Vermonter and the economic challenges they face. Have I made mistakes? Absolutely, but I have always worked to remember the dire times we are in.

At times I find myself thinking that too many legislators this session have allowed themselves to become disconnected to the lives of the average Vermonter, instead promoting their own, sometimes very costly, agendas. This disconnect started with the refusal of the House to take a pay cut (which I voted for then took after it was voted down). Contrary to what some of those who voted against the pay cut will tell you we are not under paid. In reality, compared to the average Vermonter we are very handsomely paid. A future article will focus on our pay and myths about our pay that some of us like to perpetuate. Considering our pay, and all the fringe benefits we get we are not underpaid martyrs.
