No I’m Not Running for Governor

In listening to the news I have begun to wonder if I’m the only legislator not running for governor.

Although this is a free country – a democracy – I think there is something very sad about people already announcing their plans, or potential plans, to run. We have a lot of work ahead of us without worrying about the politics often created by people running for higher office. Besides that, I think following the long presidential campaign season people are politicked out.

My disappointment extends beyond the race for governor. The various parties are already looking for candidates to run against legislators in the other parties. All of this politicking (which has probably existed since the beginning of time but I wasn’t aware of it until I was elected) makes me wonder how much some legislators, and party leaders, really care about Vermont, and Vermonters, or whether they are more interested in playing foolish little political games while stroking their egos. These party politic games only threaten to divide us in these dire times when we should be working together, not against one another.
